The Grapes Will Protect Me

I went to Whole Foods on the corner of West 24th and 7th Avenue to do a little light grocery shopping. A little of this and little of that, you know. I was about to leave when I noticed a very pregnant Diana Krall and Elvis Costello walk into the fruit section. I went towards the stack of grapes that were directly in front of them. How can I get this picture? I must document this! I went to a school dance as Elvis Costello once! So I acted as if I was texting somebody, took the picture quickly and walked away angry, responding to some disturbing text I just received (ha!).

What if Mr. Costello remembers the angry young man, standing behind the grapes, who received such a disturbing text that he quickly marched out of the fruit section. This would trouble him so that he would wind up writing a song about it titled, “The Grapes Couldn’t Protect Him.”

Check out his next album, I bet it’ll be there. Mark my word!

You will always be the Elvis Costello to my Rita Hayworth. If Elvis doesn’t crank out that hit single , I’m gonna. “the grapes couldn’t protect him” would HAVE to be better than that, “tear off your own head (its a doll revolution)” one that was in the Olsen Twins movie.

Though I not-so-secretly LOVE that song. Love the title, at least.

Your title is really funny, and Mr. Costello would most surely get a kick out of it, but I don’t think you fooled the man. He’s looking RIGHT AT YOU!

Really now, is there no sense of decency/privacy for famous people who just want to buy a few groceries for Pete’s sake? Did you consider simply approaching the man (he is only human, after all, just more well-known than some due to his career choice) and asking if he’d mind your taking his photograph? You could have probably even had your photo taken WITH him if you’d just showed a little respect for the fellow. If he’d said, “No”, you could have replied, “Why not? What’s so funny ’bout peace, love, & understanding?” lol! I bet he’d have loved it!

I realize you were probably just nervous & I don’t mean to sound harsh; it’s just that I worked in the music “biz” for 28 years and, trust me, famous people are just like anybody else. They only seem larger-than-life due to how high-up we hold them as icons.
