Apple or a PC?

This is totes the question of the ages. Which is sort of pathetic, right?

I have been bitten by the Apple bug. It all started with the iPod. The glorious days when I got my clunky white iPod, spent hours uploading my cd’s to my computer and transferring them onto my iPod. Then connected it to my friends computer to get his music, only to learn my first lesson about Apple products: they don’t want to make it too easy for you!  The moment I connected my iPod to my friend’s computer, BAM, it synced my iPod with his library, and wiped out the music I spent hours uploading.

Oh, the early days of Apple/PC relations!

Since then I’ve gotten a new iPod, the iPod shuffle, and eventually the iPhone. Looking back, each of the products has had an amazing influence on my life.

  • iPod: Where it all began.
  • IPod Shuffle: Changed the way I work out.  I can’t imagine going out for a run with my big iPod strapped to my arm ever again.
  • iPhone: Became my lifeline to my e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, calendar, GPS, etc.

So the natural genesis of my current situation is to get an actual Apple computer.  It’s a difficult transition.  I’ve spent my entire life on a PC.  Well, at least the formative years.  The first computer my family had was an Apple, in the early 90′s, the kind that took a disk, and had a screen the size of a portable TV (and was also black & white).  The abortion of the PC from my life is nothing personal, it’s totally vain.  I could give actual reasons (or excuses) as to why I need a Macbook Pro, but whom am I kidding, I just want to be cool like everybody else.

I must admit, I’m sad to see it ago.  The PC brought me…

  • My first exposure to the gay community (well, AOL chat rooms on a PC)
  • My first A
  • My first F
  • AIM
  • Porn
  • GMail
  • Annoying Microsoft Word formatting that was probably for the best but nonetheless pissed me off.
  • An obsession with IMDB.com
  • Facebook
  • HAlanScott.com

And hey, I’m in good company, Jane Fonda is picking up her Macbook Pro today!  If it’s good enough for Jane Fonda, then it’s good enough for me.
