New York, New York
Monday, May 26th, 2008Without fail, every time I return home from a trip, and the plane flys by the New York City skyline, I think, “Holy hell, I can’t believe I actually live there.” My friend Bryan put it well, “… to have moved to the biggest city in the country and made a life for yourself…” I love this city!
But I won’t be here for much longer. On June 15th I leave for Los Angeles for my six month stretch out there. But come 2009 I’ll be back in the Big Apple. But before I leave I’ve got some funny business to take care of. Check out my MySpace page for a complete listing of where I’ll be performing in the next couple of weeks. Come to a show, I guarantee you’ll laugh at least once (I’ll tickle ya if I have to).
Happy Valentine’s Day
Thursday, February 14th, 2008It’s the day of love, have you told somebody you loved them yet? Even if it’s a lie, you should still say it.
For example, I told this very nice looking man on the subway, “I love you.” He outstretched his arms, gave me a huge bear hug, and held it for a while. I think he was even crying. I pulled away first, but he held tight. He was my Aurora Greenway, I his Emma (if you get that reference, I will send you cookie - I’m serious).
It felt great to affect someone in such a positive way. He also helped me. I never really liked that wallet anyway.
If you’re in New York City and alone on Valentine’s Day, then come on down to the People’s Improv Theater to see me in “The Dating Game.” Show starts at 9:00pm. I swear it’s more fun then that pity party you were planning for yourself. Nobody needs to eat that many chocolates!
Happy Valentine’s Day y’all!
The Bomb
Saturday, January 26th, 2008Not the good “Da bomb,” but rather the literal “bomb.” In stand-up, especially when trying out new material, sometimes you get a laugh, sometimes you don’t.
“You take the good,
You take the bad,
You take them both and their you have the facts of life,
The facts of life.”
- “The Fact of Life” TV theme song
Words to live by.
Below is video from my open mic tonight. I’m all about being honest, why just share the good nights with y’all? I ain’t perfect.
(Notice that I’m wearing the same outfit from the other night. I swear, I do own other clothes, honestly.)
So yeah, there it is. But I don’t feel bad, in fact, I had a fantastic time. This is how one learns.
Video 4 U
Monday, January 21st, 2008It ain’t easy bein lazy.
I’m amazed at how difficult I find lazy days to be. I’ve had such a busy week, so taking a Scott day was very much in order. But instead of getting fresh with the couch, I felt the need to…
- Clean
- Grocery shop
- Bake
- Go on a light run
- Cook a fantastic dinner
Hmm, I need a lesson in laziness.
So, while binging on the fantastic chocolate chip cookies I made (seriously, they’re like professional), I was able to upload the video of my stand-up the other night.
It went alright, not an A, not an F, more like a C+. I don’t know, see for yourself with the video below. It’s all about the stage time, and there were some fantastic people in the audience. All in all it was a great night.
BTW, big thanks to everyone who inquired about how the stand-up went. That was very sweet, I truly appreciate it.
Enjoy!
Funky Practicality
Thursday, January 17th, 2008I feel I’m at the age where everything I do is a fight between choosing the funky direction or the practical direction. Everyday the two sides collide. Tight jeans or loose Gap jeans? Cute but not winter friendly Converse shoes or arch supporting Asics? Bikini briefs or free hanging Fruit-of-the-Looms?
This debate even applies to men. My mid-section tells me to go for the hipster guys with a funky fashion sense (and often times a peculiar odor), but lately my brain has been telling me to go for the young professional type, conservative like. The great question is, do I go for the guy wearing khaki’s pants or the one who isn’t wearing pants?
This is only going to get worse as I get older. What if I blended the two worlds? Wore Converse shoes with khaki pants? Dated the professional type while quietly wearing naughty underwear? Hmm?
I feel that’s just setting me up to become that creepy 50 year old with a funky gelled hair-do who has a MySpace profile that starts with, “You’re only as young as you feel.”
**** **** ****
BTW, check out Danny Leary and Shawn Hollenbach, two great comics. I performed with them last night at the Laugh Lounge, got to know them afterwards. Fantastic fellas!
Will You Come?
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008Excuse the Absence…
Thursday, January 10th, 2008… life got in the way. I suppose I should offer an update. Ready? Set. GO!
1) Saw November on Broadway the other night starring the fantastic Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf (Jackie from “Roseanne”!!!). Love it. It’s about a hated incumbent President the day before election day. He comes up with a wacky plan to make some money, and possibly get re-elected, using the turkey industry, the issue of gay marriage and adopted Chinese baby girls. See it if you can.
2) I apologize about the comments section of the blog. I can’t figure out why it won’t let readers leave a comment! If anybody can help me out with this, please send me an e-mail. Do the same if you would like to leave a comment on a post. I promise I will respond! HAlanScott@gmail.com
3) Going to see Come Back, Little Sheba tonight. God I love being back in New York.
4) Performing at the Laugh Lounge in ONE WEEK. Nervous doesn’t begin to describe what I’m feeling. It should be a great night, come out if you can. I promise that you’ll smile at least once. even if it’s just a sympathy smile.
5) I’m dyslexic this week. Days are getting mixed up. Yesterday I freaked cause I forgot to take out the trash to the recycle - thinking it was Thursday (the day it’s picked up). No harm done there, I put it out today. But then last night I went with Bryan to see Archers of Ha. We got there and some James Blunt wannabe was playing. The bartender informed us that Ha is on Tuesday’s. Ugh.
I want a donut.
Obama or Edwards or Clinton: OH MY!
Monday, January 7th, 2008I’m Back!
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008I have arrived. It took me an entire day to get here (thanks to snow in Chicago), but I did make it! And oh how lovely it is to be back in this fantastic city.
I wish I had more to report. In 2008 I plan on posting more video’s, especially since I’ve got this handy little camera and movie maker capability on my computer. Oh it’s going to be a fantastic year!
BTW, I have a gig coming up on January 16 at the Laugh Lounge, 151 Essex St at 9pm. If you’re near the city you should come, it’s gonna be fun!
